Information on this site applies only to the Town of Monument Municipal Court. Some summonses written by Monument Police Officers are written to El Paso County Court. Please check your summons for the name and address of the court.
General requirements and regulations governing municipal courts are set forth in Colorado Revised Statutes, section 13-10-101, et seq.
The Town of Monument Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction which serves the citizens of Monument, Colorado. The types of cases heard in the Monument Municipal Court are: traffic, misdemeanor, animal and other municipal code violations. The Town of Monument Municipal Court has authority over violations of the Town of Monument Municipal Code. Some charges require an appearance in court, while others may be resolved by mailing in a fine. Town ordinances, court rules and state statues govern court proceedings.
Violations that occur within the Town of Monument, and are considered matters of statewide concern, are written into and heard in El Paso County Court. For example: Improper auto registration, vehicle and driver licensing, theft over $500.00, first degree assault and D.U.I. violations and other felony charges. The Town of Monument does not hear civil or felony cases. |
